I am wondering if you have any wisdom to lend about pickup placement on a solid body kalimba (technically an afroharp). I am thinking getting the pickup centered and under the meat of the tines (just in front of the bridge) will be ideal. I am going to mount it from the back, so I am also assuming that the deeper I can set the pickup the better (i.e. as close to the surface as possible without blowing through the top). I am modifying an afroharp for Rick Everett; the original had been used and abused before Rick got his hands on it, so we replaced the original body with a solid wood body to start. There is some further shaping to be done on the back for play-ability, but we are looking at putting a piezo in it which needs to come first. I have installed many piezo pickups in acoustic and electric guitars, but lamellaphones are new territory for me so I appreciate any information you have to give. Thanks for your time. -Keenan
