Description

This 74 page book for the 8-Note diatonic kalimba greatly extends the power of your simple 8-Note Kalimba with a secret weapon: retuning a single tine, B, to B flat. In this tuning, there are twice as many songs available to your kalimba. Kalimba tablature for each song shows you which tines to play to make the song. A dedicated web page supports this book. There, you can find videos showing you how simple this retuning is, along with sound recordings that show you exactly how each song is supposed to sound. The 32 songs come from: African, Classical, Folk, Peace, Patriotic, Christmas, African American Spirituals, Reggae, ETC!

To make the F tuning required by this book: take an 8-Note kalimba in standard C major tuning, and tune the B tine down a half a step to B flat, the simplest retuning that you could imagine for a kalimba – and doing so opens up a world of new song possibilities to this very simple kalimba. The videos that show me doing this retuning on 8-Note and 10-Note kalimbas show that I can do this retuning in about 30 seconds. It might take you a few minutes, which is a tiny investment considering you might spend hundreds of hours learning and enjoying this treasure trove of songs that aren’t usually accessible to the 8-Note diatonic kalimba.

Songs include: Amazing Grace, Away in a Manger, Battle Cry of Freedom, Bring a Torch, Bunga Utete, Bustu MTandari, Do Lord, Chemutengure, Daniel in the Lion’s Den, Down By the Riverside, Finlandia, Follow the Drinking Gourd, For the Beauty of the Earth, Go Tell it on the Mountain, He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands, I’ve Got Peace Like a River, Mary Don’t You Weep, Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen, O Come All Ye Faithful, Ode to Joy, Red River Valley, Sadza Madya Here?, She’ll Be Comin’ Round the Mountain, Swing Low, Sweet Chariot, This Land is Your Land, Water Music, and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.
