Description

These three kalimbas – the Hugh Tracey Alto Kalimba, the Hugh Tracey Treble Kalimba, and the HT HotShot-11, all sound great together. They are all keyed in G major (relative minor is E minor). For the adult in your family with big hands, we have the 15-Note Alto. For the adult in your family with smaller hands, we have the 17-Note Treble. And for the young beginner in your family, we’ve got the HotShot-11 with tines that are the same size as the Alto tines, but spaced out a bit more, making them easier to play.

The Alto has the lowest notes, ranging two octaves from G3 to G5. The Treble’s low note is B3 (ie, just two steps above the Alto’s low note) and goes up to D6 (ie, a 5th above the Alto’s high note) – so 13 of the notes on the Alto and the Treble are shared. The HotShot-11 starts on D4 and goes up to G5 (ie the Alto’s top note), so every note on the HotShot is on both the Alto and the Treble kalimbas. The painted tines on these instruments all “line up” – ie, you can follow the pattern a melody makes from one instrument to another because the logic of the painted tines is maintained across instruments.

This is a great way for your family to make beautiful music together!
