The Power of the Song
Song Performance as Theater

I advocate song performance as theater. The music and lyrics tell a story, but the performance is also enhanced by the way you hold yourself, how your face looks, what the audience knows about you, what the audience knows about your instrument and its history and, perhaps most importantly, the relationship that you are able to establish with your audience. Some songwriters are able to get the whole audience into the 'theater production'. All of these factors can impact and color the performance.
