Building a Gourd Resonator or a Gourd Kalimba:
How Does the Kalimba Fit in the Resonator Gourd?

Place each of your kalimbas inside the gourd one at a time and see how they and your hands fit in. Are there any natural indentations in the gourd that can be accentuated so the kalimba has a little toe hold? In Africa, a little stick (or dowel) is used to jam the kalimba firmly into the gourd. It is crucial that the kalimba make good solid contact with the gourd so the vibrations are transmitted from the kalimba to the gourd body.
