Building a Gourd Resonator or a Gourd Kalimba:
Cleaning Your Gourd's Skin

Many gourds you can purchase have all sorts of crud on them from their long days growing and drying in the fields. Welburn Gourd Farm sells pre-cleaned gourds, but if you have obtained a gourd that has not been pre-cleaned, here's how to clean it yourself and produce a beautiful, natural gourd:

Fill a big tub or bucket with water and soak the gourd for an hour, placing a big rock on top to keep the entire gourd submerged. The crud will get soft, and can easily be scraped off with one of those green scrubby sponges or even a stainless steel dish scrubber.
