Being IN TUNE is an easy first step to SOUNDING GOOD
When I play my kalimba hard, I find I need to retune about once
every 2-4 weeks. If you try playing your kalimba in the cold, you
might find that it has suddenly gone out of tune.
On the other hand, I've picked up kalimbas that have not been played for 10 years,
and they
were in tune! Of course, some people WORK to get their kalimbas out
of tune - or at least tuned differently.
An electronic tuner such as the Korg CA-30 helps you
know if you are sharp or flat, and you push/pull the tines to get them
to the right pitch. It will take some learning to do, but eventually
you should be able to brush up on the kalimba's tuning in about
5 minutes - and a 5 minute investment to make you sound better
is well worth it every now and then!
