Thumbnail Care
To Clip or to File? Part I

When you play kalimba for more than an hour a day, you will find that your thumbnails develop interesting wear patterns. Some parts of the nail get worn out before other parts. Eventually it will become difficult to play because your nail is so rough. So do you clip or file to make your thumbnail smooth again?

I advise minimum filing, i.e., just file the longer parts and try to stay away from the main "working surface" of the nail, where it is worn from kalimba playing. I think it is easier not to disturb the "working surface" by using a file rather than a clipper on the other areas of the thumbnail.
