TIP OF THE DAY
Tuesday, May 15, 2007 In Africa, all traditional kalimbas have some sort of buzzer. The Hugh Tracey kalimbas are prized for their clear and beautiful sound, but here is an easy way to give a temporary buzz or to shorten the sustain of the notes: weave a strip of paper through your tines. Listen to the paper weave effect You can make the effect more dramatic by moving the paper further down the tines: Listen to the paper weave effect further down. Try using different thickness and different widths of paper for different effects.
