September 13, 2007 (see also tip for July 26) The Sansula comes from Germany in a delightful and mystical tuning. Of course, you can retune in many different ways. This tip is specific to the original tuning. There are two notes in the original tuning that I call "the pivot". They are close to each other physically, and also very close to each other on the scale - only half a step apart. So, you can play one, or the other, but usually not both at the same time. It turns out that if you pick a bunch of notes and just keep switching the pivot notes slowly back and forth, you totally change the character of those other notes.
