TIP OF THE DAY
July 13, 2006 Here is a seemingly simple pattern which expresses three against two. The left thumb plays two three-note phrases in the same space that the right thumb plays three two-note phrases. It turns out there are many ways of making "two against three", and this is the way I see "two against three" most often on the kalimba or karimba.
This MP3 has a few variations beyond what is written here. Those two notes that the right thumb alternates between? They could be any two notes, and we explore a few of the possibilities. I urge YOU to do so as well. In my forthcoming karimba book, you will find this and many other karimba exercises.
