TIP OF THE DAY
April 26, 2007 I am now compiling a book of tunings for the 8-Note Kalimba. It starts with the good old C major scale, then goes through the modes (i.e., if you flatten the B, you get the C Mixolydian Mode; add also a flattened E and you get the Dorian Mode), and then goes through a number of non-modal and some African scales. Of course, I am writing 20 other books right now too - it's a question of which book will be done next. Hymns? 8-Note Tunings? Advanced Alto? Inspiration is fickle. But soon dedication will set in on one of these books. Why am I devoting time to the 8-Note Kalimba scales book? It is the easiest kalimba to retune, the easiest to learn about scales from, and the least expensive kalimba to get two or three of - for us to get two or three of and provide a range of scales for us to play with. Music education, music therapy, and music fun.
