TIP OF THE DAY

Building in Complexity

On Monday March 26, we introduced Colin Walcott's 8-note tuning. On Tuesday March 27, we introduced a simple two part harmony. On Wednesday March 28, we grew a complex riff out of Tuesday's simple part. Today, we build a more complex structure by changing from Tuesday's harmony to Wednesday's bit.

One player plays the two different parts as below:

Download the KTabS file for part one

While the other player just plays the harmony part from Tuesday:

Tablature for the
Other Kalimba's Part

And when you put these two parts together, it will sound something like this.

Of course, another approach to kalimba music is to just totally let yourself off the leash and run like an ecstatic. Like THIS, for example. Anyway, it gives you an idea of what this kalimba tuning can do!
