February 7, 2008 Last week we looked at 9 chords, and learned that a chord named "9" also has the 7th in it (it makes it easier than writing out all the notes a chord has in it). But what if you want to leave out the 7th? Then we could call it a 2 chord. Just as the 8th note is the same as the 1 note, the 2 note is the same as the 9 note, but if you name it 2 (as in E2) then you don't play the 7th. As the 2 note is right next to the 1 or root note, this chord has some good tension building in it. To resolve the tension, drop the 2 note. This building and relaxing tension is at the heart of building a melody. ![]() Watch How to Change Sansula Tunings to Beautiful E You can purchase a Sansula at the Kalimba Shop. |
