TIP OF THE DAY
Monday, November 27, 2006 Part of the Human Condition is this: we have these absolutely amazing brains, capable of truly great thoughts and ideas and internal constructions, but the bandwidth out of our brains is very low. We can speak, we can write, we can do things with our hands and feet, but the rate of communication is truly small compared to the wealth of thoughts and ideas that resides within our brains. In doing my kalimba business, I have come across a few dozen truly great kalimba players, and not one of them has the same style as another. I am collecting these people in the Kalimba Community web pages. Each of these people lets the kalimba be a doorway to and from their soul and heart. This is true of any musical instrument, but I think it is especially true of the kalimba - in the nuanced expression of music, we can somehow get a great amount of information out from our brains and into the world at large. But instead of being just the stuff that we think about, ideas and thoughts, when we play kalimba, we are putting out our hopes and dreams and emotions and feelings. When you get good at the kalimba, it can become a "line-out" from your soul. |
