My Kalimba has a New Resonance

I didn't hear from anyone in reply to last week's tip, which posed the question: what positive thing does the crack in that kalimba provide to its sound?

Nobody got it, so I'm extending the offer to the first person who can EXPLAIN why the kalimba sounds the way it does.
