A Fifties Christmas Medley on the Bb Treble Kalimba
Rudolph, Frosty and Santa are all coming to town!

The 1950s Christmas Medley on the Bb Treble Kalimba

As a kid, I was somehow different from the other kids. They all seemed to know the words to "Santa Claus is Coming to Town." I was more like Calvin in the comic strip who thought that perhaps Santa Claus was a CIA spy. I was a bit spooked by the ominous prospect of some garishly dressed old guy coming to town to evaluate my behavior over the past year and reward me - or not!

When I created my original Christmas Medley (you can also view original Christmas Medley part II), I was after a purely spiritual event - I was seeking the emotional truth of the story of Jesus' birth, the story of light shining forth into the darkness. Of course, there was no room for Rudolph or Frosty or Santa...

But if you play Christmas gigs at the zoo or the botanical gardens, kids are always asking "Do you know Rudolph? Do you know Frosty? Can you play Santa Claus is Coming to town?" It took me years to finally give in, but eventually I did. And my belief now about these secular Christmas songs? Christmas is about wonder and joy and beauty... and making children happy. There is nothing wrong with that.

These songs played on the Bb Treble are also in a perfect key for me - and probably most men - to sing with.

I do not have these songs in tablature, nor are they on any of my CDs, but you can probably learn these songs by playing the YouTube video repeatedly, stopping and restarting.

Or you could just sit back and enjoy the music and good spirit!
