Kalimba Magic NEWS |
I have enjoyed great YouTube success with my performance of Nowhere Man on the Bb Treble Kalimba. People have been asking for more Beatle songs on kalimba. But those guys had such interesting harmonies in their music that you can't do most of their songs on a diatonic instrument like the kalimba.
But the Hugh Tracey Chromatic kalimba, with "flats" on the back (played with fingers vs. thumbs) and the "white keys" on the front (played as usual with the thumbs), is exactly what you need to play Beatle songs. And learning Beatles' music is building up the Chromatic kalimba player in me.
For many years, success on the Chromatic kalimba eluded me. I have heard from about a dozen people who bought the Chromatic kalimba from me and wrote back saying how playng it has been a life changing experience (and from a few who thought the Chromatic idea was pretty lame), but I have had no such luck on the chromatic... until a month ago.
I think I must have put this particular kalimba aside to be a Premium kalimba, because it wasn't where I was expecting it to be. For some reason I started playing it, and I soon discovered that I COULD play it. This one just spoke to me. Adopted me. And I've been working daily since then. Part of that work has been on Beatles music. From the first fruits of this effort, I share with you the tablature for the verse of "When I'm 64."
