I will be attending Kalani's Developmental Community Music (DCM) workshop in Encino, California, July 25-29. This is held in an absolutely beautific setting in the hills off of Ventura Highway. Kalani's events are a lot of fun! He was a top level LA percussionist in the 80s and 90s, and has been practicing Music Therapy in recent years, so there are a lot of components to his DCM workshops. They all center around having fun and practicing working together as a group in innovative and amazing ways.
While attending Kalani's DCM workshop, I will be contibuting some kalimba instruction, and I hope some of the participants will use kalimbas during some of the other components of the workshop - i.e., in drum circles or improvisational training.
But while I am out in California, I figured it would be great to offer a 4 hour dedicated kalimba workshop. If you know of a nice venue for a workshop in the LA area that can accommodate about 20 people - a room at a yoga center, or a Quaker Meeting House, or a reasonable hotel with a cool function room - please let me know. I am clueless about LA! The kalimba workshop could be Saturday, July 30, 1:00-5:00 pm, or Sunday, July 31, 1:00 - 5:00 pm.
I will keep you posted about both of these activities as we get closer to the dates.
