Two Great Kalimba Case Ideas
from Snuffy and Chris Joye

CaseCase

Snuffy writes:

Dear Mark,

I got it in my head that an insulated lunch bag might work as a kalimba case.

I brought my chromatic to a cheap department store, (Target), and scored right away. This bag is nice looking, padded all around inside, has two handles, and fits an HT box alto, pentatonic, or chromatic just right. It's not too tight, but it ain't bouncing around in there either. I paid 13 bucks plus tax.

I saw several other styles and sizes in the aisle with the lunch bags, odds are one will be a close fit for kalimbas of other sizes. This particular one is an Igloo Maxcold brand, it says "VERTICAL" and "lunch cooler" on the tag, but doesn't seem to have a model number. The UPC code is: 34223 47632.

If you are wondering about the look of Snuffy's tines, stay tuned! Next month we'll tell you what he's done to paint and label them. He has really made the kalimba his own.

Sansula Case

And here is a great idea from Chris Joye, who built his own Sansula case:

I finally got a case for my sansula, it's just a standard aluminum hard case that I cut the diced foam to fit the sansula. I bought it cheaply for $10 new! But it's better protection than the cardboard box.

Snuffy and Chris, thanks so much for your useful information!
